Ever since I was a child, I have loved writing and I have loved animals. I have always wanted to write the kind of story that you remember from your childhood and still find touching.

What is Love: A Story of Mama Cat and Baby Cat, by Jayna Nicholson

What is Love: A Story of Mama Cat and Baby Cat, by Jayna Nicholson

A couple of years ago, I adopted a cat from Regina Cat Rescue. Then another, and another. The work RCR does, and the difference they make in the lives of the animals they help, is incredible. I wanted to get involved and I often help out with fundraising efforts. I had an idea for a children’s book that could be used as a fundraiser by animal rescue groups, which is why the main characters in the story are cats.

Sometimes getting started writing on a new idea can be a challenge. This story wasn’t like that at all. I just sat down one morning and wrote it. I loved it immediately! Writing was just the start. Finding an illustrator and getting the book to a published format was a long journey, but holding your book in your hand at the end is an amazing feeling. I have authored many books as a ghost writer, but this is the first time I have seen one of my books published with my own name on it.

What Is Love? A Story of Mama Cat and Baby Cat is essentially an adoption tale. Meant for all ages to enjoy, the story is set on a farm and follows a mother cat as she seeks to explain to her kitten what love is. From the brown eyed cow to the patient mother hen, from the soft hay to a soft blanket and a mother’s kiss, Baby Cat learns about the wonders of her home. The story ends with Mama Cat explaining to Baby Cat what the ultimate gift of love truly is.
